Traditional
Traditional dining furniture can be made of stone glass metal or wood. Design cues are usually much softer than with contemporary furniture and the overall shapes tend to be much more involved (i.e. wood carving, scrolled metal).

Contemporary
Contemporary dining has clean lines and can be made of stone, glass, metal or wood. It's design cues are usually minimalistic with greater attention paid to use of material, and greater attention to basic shapes.
